Biography. Fredrik is an expert in cellular microbiology and mouse physiology, combining clinical oriented research with gnotobiotic mouse models to address the role of the normal gut microbiota in metabolic diseases. This is professor Fredrik Bäckhed, Sahlgrenska Academy, Sweden. Fredrik Bäckhed. Fredrik Bäckhed, at the University of Gothenburg, is awarded SEK 8,000,000 to study the gut microbiota in relation to work-related stress in women and men aged 50-64. The study is combined with animal experiments. Fredrik Bäckhed’s research has shown that bacteria that live naturally in our intestines influence the risk both of obesity and of developing type 2 diabetes.
